Landscape Horticulturist is one of many emerging occupations in Canada. While the occupation has existed for some years, changes in techniques, technology and the science of pest management, along with continually higher consumer expectations, have increased the need for standardization and specialized training and development.
Griffiths Sheppard were engaged to revise and validate the existing NOS for Landscape Horticulturist on a tight timeline. We convened a DACUM session with industry representatives from across Canada. At the session participants decided to create an entirely new NOS, which included integrated Essential Skills information.
The project was completed on time and on budget, and the revised National Occupation Standard was used to fast track the occupation through interprovincial recognition (Red Seal) in record time. Many of the innovative approaches that were used on this project have since been adapted by other organizations for the Interprovincial Red Seal NOAs and curriculum guidelines.
