The revised NOS for Landscape Horticulturist covers all tasks performed by Landscape Horticulturists, but the tasks are not aligned with normal work sequencing.
Griffiths Sheppard was engaged to restructure all tasks in the NOS into a Job Instruction job and task breakdown structure in order to simplify training and learning. A comprehensive guidebook was developed, and then workplace mentors were taught appropriate TWI techniques as part of an overhaul to the Landscape Horticulturist apprenticeship program.
This structured, competency-based apprenticeship OJT system was rolled out nationally in 2010, and is in use in Canadian Nursery Landscape Association affiliated provincial associations for training new workers for the industry.
