Construction Sector Council
The Canadian construction industry relies on the experience and expertise of construction first level supervisors – the people who lead the crews that get construction work done. While many supervisory training courses and informal certifications exist, there was no nationally recognized occupation that addressed front line supervisory skill sets.
Griffiths Sheppard was engaged to map the steps necessary to create a National Occupational Standard for Construction Foremen – later called the ‘Construction First Level Supervisor’, and to conduct feasibility and needs analysis around the creation of a new standard. Recommendations to the Construction Sector Council for strategic decision making, which eventually led to creation of the standard, and recognition of the occupation as distinct from the skilled trades.
